Lower Merion synagogues will gather together at Main Line Reform Temple for our annual observance of Yom Hashoah, the commemoration of the Holocaust. Featuring the lighting of the menorah for the Six Million by Holocaust survivors and their descendants and the appearance of the choir of the Philadelphia High School for the Performing Arts, our service will include an important address by Olivia Mattis, founder of the Sousa Mendes Foundation. Sousa Mendes was one of the great heroes of the Second World War. As the Portuguese consul stationed in Bordeaux, France, he issued some 30,000 visas to refugees attempting to escape the horrors of the Nazi war machine. Come learn more about his story and the legacy of his heroic actions.
