Dr. David J. Tuckman and Ellen S. Tuckman of Phoenix, formerly of Philadelphia; and Nurhan and Mari Mayis of Beaumont, Calif., announce the engagement of their children, Deborah Naomi Tuckman and Andre Alisan Mayis.

Deborah graduated from Smith College with a degree in theater. She also holds a Master of Social Work degree from UCLA. Deborah is an emergency room social worker at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Andre is an emergency room technician at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles and a student at Santa Monica College.

Deborah is the granddaughter of Jean Shulman of Scottsdale, Ariz., formerly of Lower Merion, and the late Sidney Shulman; and the late Jacob and Grace Tuckman. Andre is the grandson of the late Hagop and Annik Hacerian of Istanbul, Turkey; and the late Benon and Zaqik Mayis of Hareiye, Turkey.

Sharing in the couple's joy are Deborah's siblings, Dr. Ron Tuckman, and Michael Tuckman, and his wife, Nadya Salcedo; along with Andre's sibling, Elizabeth Sinanyan and her husband, Sinan.

Deborah, who lives in Los Angeles, and Andre, who lives in Santa Monica, are planning a 2013 wedding.
