Philly's Jews and Phillies Baseball -- A Grand Slam
This year, Federation stepped up to the plate as the presenting sponsor of Jewish Heritage Night at Citizens Bank Park. A sell-out crowd turned out for this third annual celebration of great baseball with very special perks for Jewish fans.
Magnets, water bottles, pens, commemorative editions of the Jewish Exponent and other memorabilia were given away at the two Federation kiosks located outside the first and third base gates where tzedakah-minded guests filled three cans with donations for the Mitzvah Food Project High Holiday Food Drive. Federation President Leonard Barrack welcomed guests to the game on the high definition Jumbotron and expertly tossed out the first pitch to the Phanatic.
Federation's CEO Ira Schwartz showed his own athleticism, lofting bags of peanuts to the 500-plus fans who purchased tickets to the game through www.jewishphilly.com, where a portion of each ticket sold benefitted Federation-funded programs and services locally and globally.
Laura Warren and Danielle Lichter, winners of Federation's Israel 63 Song in Our Hearts competition, belted out the national anthem. The ruach continued after a more than two-and-a-half hour rain delay when members of our Renaissance affinity group of young professionals lofted the Phanatic and his equally furry girlfriend on chairs to the spirited strains of Hava Nagilah.
Here's to next year!
