Philadelphia Jewish Exponent was recognized with a Simon Rockower Award for excellence in Jewish journalism at the American Jewish Press Association’s annual conference on June 23.

The AJPA’s 44th annual Simon Rockower Awards ceremony, which took place in Pittsburgh, featured 1,166 entries in 40 categories and honored the best in Jewish journalism and media for work done in 2024.

Philadelphia Jewish Exponent Managing Editor Jarrad Saffren won first place for Excellence in Writing About Seniors for his story titled “Philadelphia Centenarians Get Married. Are They the Oldest Couple Ever?”

The article, which focused on the May 2024 marriage of 100-year-old Bernard Littman and 102-year-old Marjorie Fiterman at the Fountain View at Logan Square, explored how the couple met, why they decided to get married and more.

“It is a good feeling to be recognized by the American Jewish Press Association by receiving a Rockower Award,” said Mid-Atlantic Media CEO and Philadelphia Jewish Exponent Publisher Craig Burke. “The competition is tough and this recognition speaks volumes to the talent we have on our editorial team.”
