A junior at Kohelet Yeshiva High School in Lower Merion nabs top honors in a national Bible contest.

The Kohelet Yeshiva High School junior finished first in the nation in the Bible knowledge contest known as Chidon HaTanach.
Notis, who competed with 125 other students from across the country assembled for the contest in New York on May 3, will represent the United States when the international Chidon takes place in Jerusalem next spring on Yom Ha'atzmaut, Israel's Independence Day. The competition, open to Jewish students in grades 6-11, is sponsored by the Jewish Agency for Israel.
This is not the teen’s first major achievement; Notis, who also sings with his school’s a capella group, was recently honored, along with five other students at the yeshiva in Lower Merion, by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Reportedly a self-effacing young man, Notis said simply of his preparation for what would turn into a major achievement, “I like Tanach so I found it very enjoyable.”
