Myrna F. Baum, 71, Family Court Judge
Myrna Field Baum, 71, senior judge of the Family Court of Philadelphia, died April 24 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She was a resident of Philadelphia.
Baum, elected to the Common Pleas Court of Philadelphia in 1991, has sat as judge in all divisions except orphans court. She was administrative judge of family court from 2002 to 2006. Prior to 1991, she practiced domestic-relations law.
Baum was president of the Middle Atlantic Legal Foundation, part of a national network that intervened in legal cases of national importance. She also served as district counsel for the Equal Opportunity Commission of Philadelphia, counsel to the Philadelphia Civil Service Commission and assistant district attorney in Philadelphia.
In addition, Baum initiated and organized the first Mayor's Office of Consumer Services for the City of Philadelphia.
She was a member of many charitable and cultural organizations, and the recipient of many local, state and national honors.
Baum is survived by her husband, E. Harris Baum; daughter Jennie Nicaud; stepdaughters Sharon Kaplan and Susan Spector; stepson Lewis Baum; brother Edward Paul; and seven grandchildren.
