Neighborhood Kehillah is hosting “Wellness Wisdom: Body, Mind and Soul” on Sunday, Nov. 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This program is free and will be hosted at Or Hadash, a Reconstructionist congregation in Fort Washington.
“Many Jewish community members are interested in yoga, mindfulness and healthy eating, but not everyone knows these spiritual practices can be explored and practiced through a Jewish lens,” says Rabbi Leah Richman, the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia’s Community Engagement Specialist. To illustrate the deep connection between Judaism and holistic health, the Bux-Mont Neighborhood Kehillah is hosting “Wellness Wisdom: Body, Mind and Soul” on Sunday, Nov. 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This program is free and will be hosted at Or Hadash, a Reconstructionist congregation in Fort Washington.
According to Rabbi Richman, this program is building off the success of last year’s Sandwich Generation discussion series, geared toward baby boomers. This year’s event, however, is for adults of all ages. The day will begin with a keynote speech by Rabbi Richard F. Address, who will talk about “Standing in Life before G-d: a Jewish Approach to Self-care, Health and Wellness.”
Following this talk will be workshop sessions on four different topics: Creating a Program of Health and Wellness for Your Congregation, also led by Rabbi Address; Spirituality and Healthcare, led by Dr. Don Friedman; Surprised by Silence: The Healing Power of Mindfulness led by Rabbi Sue Levi Elwell and Mindful Eating and Jewish Values, led by Shirley Kessel.
This Bux-Mont Neighborhood Kehillah program, being held in cooperation with and funded by the Jewish Federation, will end with a special healing service led by Rabbi Joshua Waxman of Or Hadash, who will be accompanied by live harp music.
Breakfast will be provided. Though there is no cost for this event, pre-registration is required. To register, visit jewishphilly.org/buxwellness. For additional information, contact Rabbi Leah Richman at 215.832.0558 or [email protected].
