This year's Chanukah menorah contest at Har Zion Temple in Penn Valley, which was open to the Conservative synagogue's elementary- and middle-school students, netted 15 entries. The designs ran the gamut, from the traditional linear version - albeit with balloons for the lights - to the more abstract, with one interpretation essentially a mountain made out of boxes of candles. The submissions were on display through Dec. 18.
