Chavaya Israelit, a joint initiative of the Israeli House and PhillyIsrael, will take Israel 65 Parade and Festival participants of all ages on a virtual trip to Israel on Sunday, May 19.

This organization, whose mission is to encourage and develop the Israeli dimension of Jewish life in the Greater Philadelphia area, will rally members of Philadelphia’s Israeli community to march behind a colorful float in the parade. Area children will ride on the float, wearing T-shirts specially designed for the event.

During the festival at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, children will be actively engaged and entertained by several Chavaya Israelit-staffed programs including mini golf played on a replica of a map of Israel and Siputron, a blend of classic Israeli storytelling, a puppet show in Hebrew and arts and crafts activities that will allow children to connect with Israeli culture, language and history.

These activities will give the children a taste of Chavaya Israelit programs, which are run each month at Congregation Beth El in Cherry Hill, N.J., and Adath Israel in Merion.

Galit Iloni, director of programming and events for PhillyIsrael, and Liron Rozen, director of the Israeli House, credit Tammi Sideman, wife of Israel Consul General Yaron Sideman, with initiating a monthly Siputron program at Gratz College in Melrose Park.

Film buffs should plan on visiting the Israel Film Tent where three award-winning films from this year’s Israel Film Festival will be screened. Included are: Audition, a film about an encounter between an Israeli woman and a Palestinian man; When You Played, which explores the themes of friendship and aging; and Sanhen’ka, the story of three generations of Russian emigres who try to integrate into Israeli society.

Also on tap is a screening of Israel Inside: How a Small Nation Makes A Big Difference. The film, which is distributed by, features interviews with leading Israeli entrepreneurs, academics and politicians who share their unique contributions to the growth and development of Israeli society.
