Bennett and Ellen Lazar of Havertown announce the engagement of their son, Louis Michael, to Julia Grace Hyman, daughter of Donald and Wendy Hyman of Fairfield, Conn.

Louis, a graduate of Haverford High School, holds bachelor's degrees in biochemistry and molecular biology and mathematics from Dickinson College. He currently attends Brandeis University, where he is working toward a Ph.D. in biochemistry.

Julia, a graduate of Fairfield High School, holds a bachelor's degree in environmental science from Dickinson College. She currently attends the University of Rhode Island, where she is pursuing a Ph.D. in biological and environmental sciences.

Louis is the grandson of Robert and Vivienne Lazar of Honolulu; and Irvin Teichman and the late Evelyn Teichman, formerly of Margate, N.J. Julia is the granddaughter of the late Beatrice and Wilbur Hyman of Clifton, N.J.; and the late Isabel and Robert Ronson of Trumbull, Conn.

Sharing in the couple's joy are siblings Matthew Lazar and Emily Hyman.

The couple is planning a 2012 wedding.
