Former Local Couple Killed in Accident After Services
Ari and Sari Horowitz, both 51, formerly of Philadelphia, were struck and killed — and their son Ami, 27, was seriously injured but is recovering — when a reportedly careening car struck them as they left Shabbat services on Sept. 15 at Young Israel of East Brunswick, N.J., where Ari had served as president from 2005 to 2007.
Another couple from Young Israel also was injured in the accident.
It was not the first tragedy to befall the Horowitz family; Eva and Yosi Horowitz, Ari’s parents, onetime managers of the since closed Rosenberg's Hebrew Books in the Northeast, lost their son Neil — Ari’s brother — in a traffic accident in the mid-1980s.
In addition to Ari’s parents, the couple is survived by daughter Natanya Tropp and two grandchildren.
