Film Screening: Whale Rider, 2002 (New Zealand/Germany, PG-13)
In partnership with The Middleton Center of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, the Lower Merion School District and Main Line Reform Temple, Parenting on the Main Line is pleased to announce a winter film series to be hosted at Bryn Mawr Film Institute. This Toronto and Sundance darling is the bold tale of a 12-year-old Maori girl who dreams of succeeding her grandfather as the chief of their people. Starring Keisha Castle-Hughes—who became the youngest person ever nominated for the Best Actress Oscar—and shot on location in its stunning setting, this film is moving and authentic. A moderated discussion will follow the screening. Parents are encouraged to bring their middle- and high-school age children to the viewing and discussion. Parenting on the Main Line is an interfaith effort to provide parents with opportunities to discuss how to raise healthy, well-adjusted, ethically grounded children on the Main Line.
