An Evening with Etgar Keret featuring Etgar Keret: What Animal Are You?

November 3, 2014 7:00 PM

Director: Gur Bentwich

Genre: Documentary Feature

Israel | 2013 | 58 min

Meet Etgar Keret, Israel's most famous contemporary writer. For Keret, writing fiction is a little like being a juggler. A cockeyed optimist, he says, "You walk this thin line between being someone with unexplainable abilities and being a con man, a cheat." His work showcases the quirkiness and mystery of life, often involving characters living on the edge.
In this very special evening, Keret will read from his work--and perhaps even juggle--following a presentation of ETGAR KERET: WHAT ANIMAL ARE YOU? This personal film is a documentary portrait of the mercurial author's public and private persona as he tours New York City, hanging out with fellow literary contemporaries Ira Glass of This American Life and Nathan Englander (What We Talk About When We Talk About Anne Frank). Offering a glimpse into his craft, his thoughts about being a writer/celebrity, and his experiences as a father and a son, ETGAR KERET: WHAT ANIMAL ARE YOU? is achingly funny, and poignant, too. And like all of Keret's work, it will leave you hungry for more.

SPECIAL GUEST: Author/Filmmaker Etgar Keret in conversation with Gary Kramer, Film Critic

SPECIAL EVENT: Live Etgar Keret reading and Q&A to follow
