8th Annual Carol H. Axelrod Memorial Blood Drive in Radnor Township
May 7 @ 7:00 am - 7:00 pm
Join your neighbors in saving lives at the eighth annual Carol H. Axelrod Memorial Blood Drive in Radnor Township. All presenting donors will receive a gift bag, free entry into prize drawings and tasty treats. Appointments for the drive, which was created by local residents in memory of a family member, can be scheduled at chablooddrive.org or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS (mention sponsor code “CHAMemorial”).
For every unit of blood collected, Axelrod’s family will make donations to the Radnor Fire Company/Radnor Ambulance and the Wayne Senior Center; if the blood drive collection surpasses last year’s total of 168 units, these donations will be doubled. Your participation in this event can help ensure that blood products are always available for patients who need them while also supporting two important community organizations.
The Carol H. Axelrod Memorial Blood Drive honors the memory of Philadelphia-area resident Carol Axelrod, who became dependent on blood products while being treated for multiple myeloma, an incurable cancer of the blood and bone marrow. Because blood was available every time she needed a transfusion, she was able to celebrate her 60th birthday and see her granddaughter turn 3 years old before she passed away in July 2008. Her family founded the memorial blood drive later that year, with a mission of enabling other patients to spend more time with their loved ones by furthering understanding of the importance of donating blood. The blood drives held in Axelrod’s memory, which now take place four times each year in different locations, have collected enough blood products to have helped more than 12,300 patients.
