Philadelphia-Israel Chamber Announces New Exec Committee and Board Members
The Philadelphia-Israel Chamber of Commerce announced Dec. 4 the installation of a new executive committee, as well as new board of directors and advisory board members.
PICC membership elected Matthew I. Fingerman, a vice president and wealth manager at BNY Mellon, as president of its board of directors.
The executive committee will include board of directors immediate past President Neil A. Cooper, past President David J. Allon, Vice President J. Todd Abrams, Vice President John J. Churchill, Vice President Rene Rothstein-Rubin, Vice President and Secretary Matthew Taylor, Treasurer Immanuel John K. and PICC Executive Director Vered Nohi.
In addition, the following board of directors members received new two-year terms: Scott I. Feldman, Carolyn Hochstadter Dicker, Seth Freedman, Mike Krupit, Lori F. Reiner and Jonathan E. Spanier.
New members of the board of directors include Shouvanik Chatterjee, Ayala Laufer-Cahana and Asaf Levy.
New advisory board members are Lawton Laurence, Allison Lindemann, Qingbin Yuan and Amy Zitelman.
David L. Cohen to Step Down from Comcast
Comcast Senior Executive Vice President David L. Cohen announced that he would step down from his position at the cable giant next year, 6 ABC reported.
He has been at Comcast since 2002.
Cohen will remain as a senior adviser, Comcast CEO Brian Roberts said in a company memo.
Cohen chairs the University of Pennsylvania’s board of trustees and was chief of staff to former Philadelphia Mayor Ed Rendell.
In 2017, Cohen was named campaign co-chair (with his wife, Rhonda) for the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia.
Kimmels Donate $70M to Jefferson
Sidney and Caroline Kimmel have donated $70 million to Thomas Jefferson University to expand its biomedical research facilities in Center City, the Philadelphia Business Journal reported.
The donation is the second-largest ever received by the university.
To be known as the Caroline Kimmel Biomedical Research Building, the 12-story structure will be built at Ninth and Locust streets. Although the start of construction and expected completion dates weren’t announced, the expected price tag is between $300 million and $350 million.
JEVS Announces Changes to Lasko College Prep Program; Eligibility Increases
More high school students than ever before will be eligible for the Lasko College Prep Program in 2020, JEVS Human Services announced.
In the past, there was a financial eligibility requirement that limited the program to low- and middle-income families, but the program will now be eligible for all students.
The program for Jewish high school juniors will remain free for those who meet financial eligibility requirements, while there will be sliding fee scales for those who do not.
Participating students receive a paid summer internship at a Jewish nonprofit, SAT/ACT tutoring and mitzvah opportunities, as well as assistance in applying for scholarships and financial aid, help in finding a college “best fit, the chance to earn community service hours and help with college essays and the application process.”
The program will run in 2020 from June 22 to Aug. 7.
