RETIRED OBSTETRICIAN-GYNECOLOGIST
Died Jan. 26, 2012. DR. EMANUEL, a Philadelphia native, was in the 201st Class of Central High School. He graduated from of the University of Pennsylvania in 1957 and Thomas Jefferson School of Medicine in 1961. Following 2 years of active duty in San Diego as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy, he completed both his internship and residency specialty training at the Albert Einstein Medical Center of Philadelphia. DR. EMANUEL was in the private practice of obstetrics and gynecology for over 33 years, delivering over 3000 babies at Lankenau, Jefferson, Haverford, Presbyterian and Riddle Memorial Hospitals. He was a former president of the Haverford Community Hospital Medical Staff, a diplomate of the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Fertility Society. He was a member of the Pennsylvania and Delaware County Medical societies and of the Phi Delta Epsilon Medical Fraternity.
DR. EMANUEL spent considerable time engaged in community service. He was on the medical advisory board of the Delaware County Community Nursing Service and a speaker for numerous hospital and community based educational programs. He participated as an advisor to a community based voluntary sex-education course at Haverford High School. He received numerous awards for his work in continuing medical education and a 30 year award at the Main Line Hospitals. After his retirement, he was a political activist for health care reform measures and was often seen or quoted in the media for his activities in this regard. More recently he became an active volunteer for the American Red Cross, assisting at blood drives.
DR. EMANUEL was a member of the board of Congregation Beth El- Ner Tamid of Broomall. He is survived by his wife, BEVERLY S. (WILLIS) EMANUEL; daughter and son-in-law JULIE (EMANUEL) and ALAN GUBERNICK; son and daughter-in-law ERIC and JACQUELINE (LEONARD) EMANUEL, and son M. FRANK EMANUEL; sister JOAN ROSENFELD; and four granddaughters MADELYN and CARLY GUBERNICK and CLAIRE and KYLIE EMANUEL.

NATHAN R FOX Died January 27, 2012. He was 102 yrs old. He taught in the School District of Philadelphia, having been on the faculties of Simon Gratz and South Philadelphia High Schools. His service began in 1932 and he retired in 1970. He was graduated from Temple University with Bachelor's and Master's degrees. During WWII, he served aboard the USS Denver in the Pacific theater. He was a chief petty officer. After four years, he returned to teaching in the Philadelphia schools from service in the US Navy. He was president of the Bromley House Club, and was an officer in the Auspitz Chapter of Deborah Hospital Foundation. He was a member of Rodeph Shalom Synagogue. Husband of the late EVA (nee ROVINSKY), father of BONNIE FOX (and the late JOEL) SCHWARTZ. Grandfather of MARJORIE (JOHN) POULOS and DAVID (JAMIE) SCHWARTZ. Born in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late GEORGE K. PURDON and the late CLAIRE BLACKBURN PURDON. MARTHA graduated from Michigan State University in 1980.
She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, weaving and knitting and was a member of the Philadelphia Weavers Guild. She was a member of Temple Judea of Bucks County.

BEATRICE LEDER of Philadelphia, Pa died on January 27, 2012 at age 91. She was a teacher at West Philadelphia and Girls' High schools for 40 years, positively impacting the lives of thousands of students in the classroom, as a class sponsor, as a coach for the debating team, and as a night school teacher of new immigrants. With a remarkable ear for music, BEATRICE was largely self-taught at piano and organ and was the beloved keyboard instrumentalist at services and religious school at Congregation Rodeph Shalom for many years. She loved going to the theater and the movies, and reviewing new films for her neighborhood newspaper. Throughout her life, her philanthropic endeavors were directed to supporting theater and the arts as well as higher education in Philadelphia. BEATRICE was the daughter of the late ANNA (KASDIN) and HYMAN DEGLIN. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, IRVING LEDER. BEATRICE was the dear sister of the late SOL DEGLIN.
