H. RICHARD DICK DOLLINGER, 73, of Cherry Hill, NJ, retired vice president of Charming Shops and former vice president of the Jewish Federation of Southern NJ, died of complications from treatment of a brain tumor on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. In 1960, MR. DOLLINGER became a partner in Charming Shops Inc., a chain of four women's apparel stores. He eventually became vice president of the Bensalem company, which had 1200 stores by the time he retired in the mid-1980's. MR. DOLLINGER was happy to play golf and devote his time to charity. He served on the board of the Jewish Federation of Southern NJ, was chairman of the federation's 2008 annual campaign and active on numerous committees. He was also a board member of the Jewish Community Foundation. MR. DOLLINGER grew up in Huntingdon, PA, in Blair County and attended Pennsylvania State University. After graduating, he moved to Phila. to work for E.J. Korvette, a discount department store chain. He met his wife, MARSHA (Nee ZEIGLER) DOLLINGER, at a party in Wynnefield, and they married in 1959. He was the beloved father of JULIE DOLLINGER, M.D., JENNIFER (ED) DOLLINGER-WOODS and JAMIE (ROBERT) DOLLINGER-HIRSCH. He was a dedicated brother to DORIE DOLLINGER, and a loving Pop-Pop to EVA, RIVKA, AIDAN, AVRAHAM and BAYLA. Interment Crescent Memorial Park, Pennsauken, NJ. FRIEDA FREEDMAN, 92, a beloved Hebrew School teacher for 35 years, 30 years of which were spent at Adath Jeshurun Synagogue in Elkins Park, PA, passed away on September 22, 2008. Born in Trenton, NJ to BESSIE and SOLOMON COHEN, FRIEDA was the devoted and beloved wife of JOSEPH S. FREEDMAN of blessed memory for 64 years. She was the loving mother of PHYLLIS (EDWARD) STEINBERG, DR. ALLAN (BARBARA of blessed memory) FREEDMAN and RHONDA (LARRY) CHATZKEL. FRIEDA was also the doting grandmother of DR. DAVID (SARAH) STEINBERG, REBECCA (JOSEPH) CAPIZZI, DEBORAH STEINBERG (MICHAEL HERTZLER), AVI (GAIL) FREEDMAN, REENA (DAN) RILES, NOAM FREEDMAN, JONATHAN CHATZKEL and SARAH CHATZKEL, and great grandmother to ELIZABETH and HARRISON STEINBERG, HENRY CAPIZZI, and ROSE YAEL RILES. FRIEDA was a graduate of Gratz College and was honored by the Jewish Board of Education for her many years of service in 1989. She was also honored by Adath Zion Congregation of Phila. for Torah Education in 1991. She was a mentor to new teachers-in-training at Gratz College. After her retirement, FRIEDA actively volunteered to teach English as a second language to new immigrants and was recognized by the Phila. Mayors Commission on Literacy for her work. At the age of 90, she mentored her last student, a granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, who studied childrens poetry of the Holocaust with her. FRIEDA and her late husband JOSEPH were active members of Adath Zion Congregation for 36 years. She wrote a monthly column for the Congregations newsletter Spotlight. Her articles were often quoted in other Jewish periodicals and drew a following of readers who corresponded with her. Many also knew her as an artist, depicted in the ad for the Abramson Center for Jewish Life. She was a wonderful cook and gracious hostess, and loved having her family, extended family and friends for Holiday gatherings. FRIEDA was intelligent, beautiful, thoughtful and caring. She was always a lady and treated everyone with respect and kindness. ETHEL (Nee STERNBERGER) GOLDSTEIN formerly of Atlantic City, NJ and Phila., PA, died peacefully on September 5, 2008 at the Hospice of the Valley in Scottsdale, AZ after a series of illnesses at the age of 83. Her children HOWARD and JUDY (SUSSMAN) and sister NANCYE (FRANKENTHAL) were with her for her last hours. She is predeceased by her husband GEORGE. ETHEL lived in Scottsdale for the last 13 1/2 years. She enjoyed swimming with her friends and singing in a local singing group in Scottsdale. She will be missed by her grandsons MARK and MAX SUSSMAN.

JACK SALTZMAN, age 84, of Fairless Hills, passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, while surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Phila., he moved to the Lower Bucks County area in 1969. He is survived and will be deeply missed by his beloved wife and best friend of 55 years, SHIRLEY (BEREZIN) SALTZMAN, his sons and daughter-in-law, ALAN SALTZMAN of Fairless Hills, STUART SALTZMAN of Osprey, FL and RON and CINDI SALTZMAN of Bensalem. He will forever live on in the hearts of his adoring grandchildren, DANNY, LAUREN, HEATHER, and CHELSEA and great granddaughter, OLIVIA BEA. JACK owned and operated The Family Tavern in Phila. along with wife SHIRLEY for 25 years. After retiring, he spent the last 20 years traveling, spending time with friends and family and enjoying his favorite pastime, sailing. He was an active and respected member of the Fegelson-Young Post- Jewish War Veterans in Levittown and was devoted to his regular visits and volunteer work with the Coatesville Veterans Hospital. In 2006, he was honored and awarded with numerous medals for his bravery in WWII. Once you met JACK, it was impossible not to love him. He will be dearly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew him.
