LILLIAN RUBIN FERTIK died on Sunday, October 25, 2009, age 96, at the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington in Rockville, MD. She is survived by her children, MARIAN FERTIK RICHTER (ROBERT) and PHILIP FERTIK (ELIZABETH), and her grandchildren, RACHEL and MICHAEL RICHTER and HARRIET FERTIK. After a graveside ceremony she was buried on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at Montefiore Cemetery, Jenkintown, PA, beside her late husband HARRY, who died in 1974 after 35 years of marriage. The family observed shiva at the Richter home in Bethesda, MD. Charitable contributions may be made to the Hebrew Home or the Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington, where she volunteered for many years.

KAY GROSSMAN (nee SHRAGER), formerly of Philadelphia, died in Los Angeles, CA, on October 9, 2009, after a long illness. She was the daughter of BERNARD and RETA (BARISH) SHRAGER of Mayfair, Philadelphia. She is survived by her daughter RACHEL GROSSMAN TOOHEY (DANIEL), Diamond Bar, CA, her beloved grandchildren, GRACE and JACOB, her brother, STANLEY SHRAGER (EDWARD MICHAEL) of Allentown, PA, her cousins, and her many good friends. KAY was a retired elementary school teacher and had taught more than 40 years in the La Mirada/Norwalk School District. She had previously been a teacher at the former Crispan Elementary School in Philadelphia. KAY attended Olney High School and earned BS and MS degrees at Temple University before moving to California with her former husband, MORTON GROSSMAN in 1959. She was an active member of Ner Tamid Temple of Downey, CA. For many years, KAY took aerobic classes and tap dancing lessons. KAY traveled extensively in the United States, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Israel. Her intelligence, kindness, warmth, and honesty will always be remembered. ROBERT IRWIN KATZ, MD, age 72, died peacefully on October 21, 2009 at Presbyterian Medical Center in Phila. Loving husband of MIMSYE (nee WILSON) KATZ, loving father of ADAM, DANIEL and SUSAN and the late DAVID, grandfather of ISABELLA and devoted brother of the late RICHARD KATZ. He is very fondly remembered by the many people he touched as a physician, first in Atlantic City and then for many years at Presbyterian Medical Center in Phila. He was known for his sharp mind, great sense of humor, and he touched many people's lives with his passion for healing both the body and mind. DR. ZURKOW

FRANCES M. ZURKOW died October 23, 2009 at Westminster Health Care Center in Dover. Born April 6, 1922 in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of BERNARD S MILLER and ALYCE (LEAF) MILLER. Her maternal grandfather, WILLIAM B. LEAF, was a founder and publisher of several Jewish newspapers, including the Jewish Daily Forward of New York. After her graduation from West Philadelphia High School, where her classmates voted her Most Likely To Succeed, she attended secretarial school. During World War II, she worked for the US Army in Fredericksburg, VA. She was predeceased by her husband, ROBERT J. ZURKOW, DDS of Dover and by her younger sister, GLORIA POSNER.  MRS. ZURKOW is survived by her children, PAMELA ZURKOW PRAMUKA of Moloa’a, Hawaii, and JEFFREY LEAF ZURKOW of Camden, Maine. Graveside services were held on Tuesday, October 27, at Beth Emeth Memorial Park, Faulkland Road, Wilmington. The family asks that contributions be made to your favorite charity.
