Fairmount's Fierce Night Market
After spending about twenty minutes searching for a parking spot (and contemplating going home to get bikes), my husband and I joined the festivities at Fairmount's Night Market, the summer-monthly production of the Food Trust. Greeted by the funky sounds of Scofield, Medeski, Martin and Wood's "A Go Go" track that the DJ was spinning, I knew we were in for a treat. Good music, local food and gorgeous weather is the perfect trifecta for a successful event. That and SO MANY PEOPLE!
Lines and lines of people clogged Fairmount Avenue and spilled over to the intersecting Corinthian Avenue where food and beer vendors looked like factory workers on an assembly line dishing food and exchanging money on repeat.
My favorite bite was the chicken and biscuit from Supper, served with a smile by co-owner Jenny Jen.
The success of this event is significant. Aside from being fans of food, we are supporters of independent restaurant and food truck purveyors. The Food Trust facilitates so much of this effort in our city with its farmers' markets and food education programs. My only advice to the event organizers is to invest in crowd control stanchions.
The next Night Market is Thursday, June 20 from 6 - 10 p.m. in West Oak Lane at 72nd and Ogontz Avenues.
