JCC Honored for 'Meals on Wheels'
January 25, 2012 Volunteers for the Klein JCC's Kosher Meals on Wheels Program last week were recognized with a special citation from the Pennsylvania General Assembly.
More than 600 people volunteer each year to prepare, cook and deliver meals to about 500 seniors who are homebound or have limited ability to cook or shop. The Klein program is affiliated with the national Meals on Wheels organization and has an annual budget of roughly $250,000.
The citation was sponsored by State Reps. Brendan Boyle and Kevin Boyle. The brothers, both Democrats, represent adjacent Northeast Philadelphia districts.
Seth Kaplan, Kevin Boyle's chief of staff, presented the citation to Lisa Sandler, Klein's director of community services, during a program for seniors at the JCC.
The citation commends the volunteers for working to end senior hunger by 2020.
