Stars of David

February 04, 2010 - Michael Elkin, Arts & Entertainment Editor

Unreported, but true, is the fact that Punxsutawney Phil awoke on Tuesday and saw just four more weeks to spring training; "Stars" understands he already put in his World Series tickets requests.
Michael L. Kleiman

Gee, he only looks 39, but Barry Reisman, whose show is broadcast on WNWR, is mazel-toving the way to his 45th anniversary on the air. "Stars" hears a totally unfounded rumor that Reisman -- replaying some of his all-time fave interviews (and, no, the Barry Sisters are no relation) during the celebration -- will be given a shout out by having the call letters of the station named in his honor: What's Nu With Reisman. Well, it could happen.

Give that man a chair! Oh, they already have: Michael L. Kleiman, a founding member of Bleczinski, Kleiman & Klein, LLC, of King of Prussia, has been named chair of the Family Law Section, Montco Bar Association.

Busy, busy, busy Bean: Philadelphia's Henry Bean, best known perhaps for the flick "The Believer" and TV's "K Street," now has three works in development: "Crazy Dog," "Down by the River" and "The Knife." Knowing Hollywood, one can only assume that he's watching his back on that last one.

Aaron Lazar

Isn't it, Aaron? Yes, Jersey Boy Aaron Lazar has been hearing "A Little Night Music," starring as Carl-Magnus opposite Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury in the current Broadway production.

It's the law! Richard L.Goldstein, managing attorney with Marshall Dennehey Warner Coleman & Goggin, has been elected to its board and as a senior vice president.

Also a-board: Lisa Peskin, Kimberly Rayer and Ellen Scolnic have joined the board of Federation Early Learning Service as observers.

Chowing down with Jeffrey Chodorow: The Philly guy with a flair for food has this on his plate: A new Basque dining spot at the Eventi Hotel in New York, set for the fall. "Stars" is already sharpening his knife and fork for the big day.

Passing the taste test with flying colors: Cookbook author Ethel G. Hofman, whose food column and all its goodies graces the pages of this newspaper, has received the 2009 Alumni Achievement Award from Caledonian University, in Glasgow, Scotland. Hey, Ethel, who catered the after-party?

Jeffrey Chodorow

Just two guys talkin': Prominent Philly lawyers Tom Kline and Shanin Specter, authors of Two Boys, Divided by Fortune, United by Tragedy, have been booked to talk about their efforts for obtaining justice through the courts on Monday, Feb. 8 -- and the Brandeis Law Society is happy to host them, which is why, maybe, the conversation will take place during its "happy hour."

Etched in Concrete: Don't know what his billing hours are, but attorney Adam Barrist of the law firm of Deeb, Petrakis, Blum & Murphy gets top billing as an author, with the pub of The Concrete Lawyer, a thriller focusing on a Jewish barrister from Philadelphia (ahem!) "caught up in a corporate cross-continental scheme from the City of Brotherly Love to Paris." There's a big Feb. 4 reception due at the Pyramid Club (Madoff has nothing to do with this) and future book-signings at area Borders stores, including the one coming up on Feb. 18 in Center City. Gee, the law, concrete ... last time "Stars" heard those two together, Jimmy Hoffa was involved. u Contact the writer at: melkin@jewishexponent.com (215-832-0735).
