Free Genetic Testing Offered

February 04, 2010

The Victor Centers for Jewish Genetic Diseases of the Albert Einstein Medical Center, with the aid of Genzyme Genetics, is offering a Jewish genetic disease screening on Feb. 4, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Thomas Jefferson University, Bluemle Life Sciences Building, 233 S. 10th St. in Center City.

The screening is open to all, ages 18 to 45. Everyone will be screened, regardless of ability to pay; the center will also cover the cost for people whose insurance doesn't pay for the testing, or pays only a portion of it.

This marks the first time the Victor Centers is offering screening to the general public (not just for college students) and the first time it has teamed up with other Jewish groups, such as Birthright Israel NEXT, the Gershman Y and the Collaborative, among others.

On site will be Einstein's Victor Centers clinical staff, led by medical director Adele Schneider.
