Hold it -- a major honor named after a sports jacket? Hope the Philadelphia Bar Association members are good sports getting needled: The local group will be bellying up -- and over -- to Chicago at the end of the month to claim their trophy as winners of the Harrison Tweed Award -- oh, it's not Harris Tweed after all; sorry -- one of the most eminent handed out by the American Bar Association.
Sayde Ladov, Philadelphia Bar Association chancellor, will be on hand to receive the tribute for the group's Residential Mortgage Foreclosure Diversion Program at the ABA's annual get-together.
"Stars" just loves a good self-descriptive title, and what better than this one for a session at the Federal Bench-Bar Conference held recently at the Marriott Philadelphia: "How Not to Go to Jail With Your Clients: Handling Client Monies and Other Timely Issues," with panelists U.S. District Court Judge Joel H. Slomsky; Ellen C. Brotman, Ian M. Comisky and Louis D. Lappen. Wonder if it involved anything about collecting $200 and going directly to jail?

| Dr. Barry P. Levin

Wisdom teeth: Dr. Barry P. Levin, internationally respected periodontist who hails from Maple Glen, had a jaw-dropping travel log this past month. Buckle up, put all trays away, first stop: Sweden, where he presented a study at Europerio 6 in Stockholm, on bone grafting, as part of a clinical research forum. Next: Amsterdam, and his talk on comprehensive dental implant treatment to a group of eminent doctors gathered from the Netherlands and Belgium. (Amsterdam? Wonder if there was any mention of root canals.) Finally, back home for the Penn associate professor, whose accomplishments provide a mouthful of mentions.
Block of items: Jerry Block is curating an artful assemblage of "Museum Masters: From Rembrandt to Picasso" -- Chagall included -- beginning July 17, at Ocean Galleries in Stone Harbor, N.J. Dali?
You shouldn't; it's only on sale for three days.
Sing out Louise? Nah, more like sing out Charles, Don, Kimilee, Jessica, Ted and Natalie -- for those on a first-name basis with Broadway performers (respectively) Bergell; Brewer; Bryant; Boevers; Levy; and Toro, all taking part in "Broadway Sings," the fall festival concert of Congregation Ner Zedek, this Labor Day. Chairing the songfest -- watch out for the chandelier! -- are Jack Belitsky and Michael Brown, so in sync that they could be brothers-in-law.
For she's a jolly good fellow: Sarra Lev, rabbinics department chair/Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Wyncote, has been chosen as one of the 2009-10 Mandel Jerusalem Fellows, which offers those selected "a yearlong learning experience to reflect on their professional practice, to challenge and refine their conceptions of Jewish life and engagement, and to develop a well-grounded vision to implement in the next phase of their careers."
Everyone into the PlayPenn? Depends on what they have to offer. The fifth annual new play development conference at the Adrienne in Center City includes "Two Jews Walk Into a War," by Seth Rozin, July 21; and "In Appetite," with Arden J. Kass' theatrical recipe featuring a cookbook written during the Holocaust, read the evening of July 25.
