Step right up to the line -- the hardest "get" of a ticket on Broadway these days is "Billy Elliot," the musical smash based on the 2000 film about a Brit youngster whose dance ambitions put him at odds with the working-class conditions his hard-edged dad won't let him step away from.
But that hasn't stopped "On the Scene" from snaring a couple of orchestra tickets for his latest "On the Scene-Broadway Division" contest!
One lucky reader and a guest will get to experience the show -- abetted by music by Elton John -- and rocket on to Broadway for the musical's Sunday, Dec. 14 matinee, at the Imperial Theatre.
Already sporting international versions in London and Sydney, "Billy Elliot" offers audiences a chance to stand in the shoes -- or slippers -- of a character destined to make change in the dance world and, to say the least, Mrs. Wilkinson's ballet class.
Wait -- there's more! Winner and guest can dance their way over to the Stage Deli, where a pirouette of pastrami -- or a matzah ball soup version of "Sleeping Beauty" -- awaits them. That's right -- lunch for two at the Stage, itself accustomed to shining in New York's footlights.
To enter, send in your name, address and phone number (postcards only) to "Scene-Broadway," c/o the Jewish Exponent, 2100 Arch St., Philadelphia, PA 19103.
One winner, two fetes: "Billy Elliot" and lunch for two at the Stage.
Entries must be received by noon on Nov. 26.
