Bucks County Jews to Celebrate

May 15, 2008

What would a festival be without water ice and napkins?
Music, crafts, rides, food and fun -- all of the elements of a successful spring Sunday outing -- will be in play on Sunday, June 1, when the Jewish Federation's Kehillah of Bucks County hosts its annual Jewish Community Festival. The event will be held, rain or shine, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Shady Brook Farm in Yardley.

Designed as a showcase for the community's 16 synagogues and other communal agencies, the festival will feature Jewish Idol winners Rachel Getz and Emily Green, both students at the Jewish Community High School at Gratz College. Also on stage will be Shir Klez, the klezmer music group from Shir Ami Synagogue in Newtown; Rabbi Jeff Schnitzer of Congregation Tifereth Israel of Lower Bucks County with his Uma Numa band; Rabbi Saul Grife, spiritual leader of Beth Tikvah-B'nai Jeshurun in Erdenheim, will sing music from his new CD, "Tales From the First Book"; teen rock band, Principa, and Monica Vinovezky, wife of Israeli Consul Leo Vinovezky, will sing Israeli music after her husband brings greetings from the Jewish State. Acrobat Lisa Appel, also known as "Miss Lisa," will perform throughout the festival grounds.

There will be rides and inflatables from Party Magic, free photo key chains from the Face Place, strawberry-picking, and a Judaica and crafts market. Also available will be kosher food, such as shwarma and falafel, and snacks like hot dogs, hamburgers, water ice, cotton candy and more.

There will be rides and inflatables galore on June 1.

Festival chairs are Harry and Andrea Tankin of Shir Ami Synagogue. Howard Cohen of Tifereth Israel serves as Kehillah program coordinator, and Michael Neil of Kol Emet in Yardley is Kehillah chair.

The farm is located on 931 Stony Hill Road, at the Newtown Bypass in Yardley. The free event is open to the entire human community; no dogs allowed!
