Etz Chaim Moves to New Location in Center City

May 08, 2008

The Etz Chaim Center for Jewish Studies, an Orthodox organization that focuses on outreach and education, recently moved from its longtime location on South 16th Street to new offices at 1420 Walnut St., Suite 1008, in Philadelphia.

According to Rabbi Dovid Wachs, the group's executive director, the move to a considerably smaller location was brought on by a steep increase in rent. Wachs said that he expects more Etz Chaim-sponsored events to take place in venues other than its Center City site.

The move also comes on the heels of a split with a prayer minyan, started by Etz Chaim, that's now become an independent Orthodox congregation called Center City Synagogue/Mekor Habracha.

Etz Chaim is also in the midst of preparing for its 19th-anniversary gala dinner on June 4.
