Pulling the Persian Rugs Out From Under History

May 01, 2008 - Michael Elkin, Arts & Entertainment Editor

Get the groggers ready ... What? They're already here! Jonathan and Sharon Levin (center) are hamantashen-happy as they're honored at the Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy Purim gala. Saluting the two for community dedication and exemplary lives (from left) are Dr. Steven M. Brown, Barrack head of school-elect, and Shelly Brown; and Cheryl and Jay Dorsch, prexy, board of directors of Barrack.

While Queen Esther was busy showing Haman the door, Barrack Academy showcased the chairs: The gala's chairwomen husbanded their energies for the event and are shown taking a breather with their spouses. From left are Michael and Debbi Bass; Dr. Steven and Belinda Raikin; and Linda and Jake Kriger.

Sing a song: That's exactly what Barrack alumni Dana Gitlin (left) and Rachel Kaplan, Class of 2007, did, receiving a hug from the Levins for a special serenade they presented, with original lyrics written to the tune of Christina Aguilera's "I Turn to You." Nothing "dirrty" here -- Aguilera is best known for her song by the same name -- just good clean fun -- and a sweet message from the heart to a couple with many fans.
