Old Shemini Atzeret joke told me by my late beloved
Tanta Zena: Says Moishe, "Supposed to be warm for the holiday today." Replies his friend: "Who told you that?" Moishe: "Shimi said it." (It should be noted Tanta Zena did not become a professional comedian.)
Here are some
"Stars" who definitely have that holiday feeling: Sandra Levine Garz has been named exec veepee, arts and culture, the Gershman Y, while
Nicholas Gilewicz is the new director of its cultural-arts programs.
Sidney Kimmel really has the jones for filmmaking -- and he does it so well. The Philadelphia philanthropist -- whose famous name is affixed to a number of institutions, including the concert center here -- is exec producing one of the fall's most anticipated flicks: "The Kite Runner," which had a great run on the best seller list. (It's based on Khaled Hosseini's novel.)
Give him some space? Marshall Herskovitz found it on MySpace. The Philly filmmaker is partnering once more on a project -- seems like there have been 30-some of them -- with fellow producer Ed Zwick. But this one is part of a new WebWorld: "Quarterlife" is being shot to be shown on MySpace. "Quarterlife"? Long life, guys!

Happy 5,000th, Howard! Howard Eskin just celebrated his 5,000th broadcast on WIP with a shindig thrown for him in Olde City. One question: What did Charlie Manuel bring?
Man of taste Andrew Schloss -- a food contributor to the Jewish Exponent (he writes about it; he doesn't actually give us food -- although
) will be autographing his latest volume of victuals, 2,500 Recipes: Everyday to Extraordinary, on Oct. 11, at Barnes & Noble in Jenkintown. Wonder if he'll use lemon-scented ink to sign.
Talking food -- and "Stars," whose first meal as a baby was strained brisket, is always talking food -- Phyllis Finkelstein and Marlene Green, editors/co-chairs of the Timeless Cookbook project of the Auxiliary of the Madlyn and Leonard Abramson Center for Jewish Life, recently guested on "Ten!" -- that perky local NBC show -- to dish on a dish featuring chicken and chocolate. Yes, that's right -- chicken and chocolate. Don't know if they season it with Rosemary since she didn't return "Stars" calls.
More food for thought: Getting her just desserts these days is the talented local lass Leslie Kritz, about to wow 'em in the Harvey Fierstein Broadway musical "A Catered Affair."
Still on the tip of my tongue: When Ma calls you for "Supper," maybe it's an invite out, not to the hearth and home. Jennifer and Mitchell Prensky are opening the South Street spot later this month. Don't even ask if they'll serve breakfast.
Three to show: Delaware County resident Andrew Goldberg can be counted on any Tyme. He was third-place finisher at Tyme Gallery's 10th annual juried exhibition.
To get a good job, get a good education? How about combining them both with a great payoff. That's what Celeste, 16 and a soph at Lower Merion High School, and bro Austin Lavin, 23, have done by creating myfirstpaycheck.com, listed as a "job-posting Web site for teens by teens." Good work -- really, good work -- if you can get it, and these two got it!
Albert Boscov, retired chairman of Boscov's Department Stores, has been selected as one of the honorary chairpersons for this fall's 17th Delaware Valley Alzheimer's Memory Walks.
Michael F. Barrett, managing shareholder of Saltz, Mongeluzzi, Barrett & Bendesky, P.C., is the prexy-elect of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association.

"Did I Hear You Say You Love Me?" Well, yes, Stevie Wonder, your fans just did say that -- which is possibly why he's returning to tour after so many years off the road. And this big shindig was being put together by Live Nation, whose honcho is Philly legend Larry Magid. Ironically, Philly wasn't on the schedule. Hey, Larry, where's the love?
O.J., oy vay? Yes, it's true: O.J. lawyer Yale Galanter grew up in Cherry Hill, N.J. As he told Time, "I probably grew up in the only Jewish family whose parents did not want their son to become a doctor or lawyer." And see what happens from not listening to your parents?
