Community Spirit Spurs Super Sunday Success

February 22, 2007

On Sunday, Feb. 11, Mother Nature cooperated and nearly 700 volunteers joined the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia for Super Sunday, the Greater Philadelphia Jewish community's largest day of fundraising.

Thanks to the calls volunteers made from the Hilton Philadelphia City Avenue, Abrams Hebrew Academy in Yardley and NCO Group in Horsham, Federation raised more than $1.3 million to address needs locally, in Israel and around the world.

"The energy, the excitement and the community spirit of Super Sunday volunteers and staff were certainly very evident at each Super Sunday location," said Ira M. Schwartz, Federation president.

"It was particularly exciting to see so many rabbis involved and on the phones," continued Schwartz. "I'd like to extend a special 'thank you' to area synagogues for their outstanding participation."

Schwartz also noted that the involvement of many young people in Super Sunday bodes well for the future of the Jewish community.

Mary Relles and Jeff Perlman, phoning initiative co-chairs, led the successful Super Sunday effort.

Super Sunday was generously supported by platinum sponsors Blank Rome, Jewish Exponent, Klapholz's Kosher Delicatessen and NCO Group; and gold sponsors Dollar Financial Group, Inc., KPMG, Stonehenge Advisors Inc. and Young Adjustment Company, Inc.
