Brake for the Groundbreakings

September 28, 2006

Youth of Beth Chaim Reform Congregation (left) assisted at a Sept. 17 ceremony to mark their soon-to-be-built synagogue and education center in East Whiteland Township, off the Route 202 corridor. After more than five years of planning, fundraising and searching for a home, construction will soon begin on a permanent location; the site will be developed in two phases. Board members (right) then took a turn with the shovels.

Give these folks in Elkins Park a shovel: Joining together for a ceremonial groundbreaking for a major addition to Old York Road Temple-Beth Am in Abington are (from left) Nancy Chesin, who served as president of Temple Beth Torah; Rabbi Andrew Sklarz; Old York Road Temple-Beth Am president Gary Rubin; Senior Rabbi Robert Leib; Cantor Elena Zarkh; president of Beth Am Federation of Temple Youth Carly Feldman; Rabbi Emeritus Harold Waintrup; and Lou Cheifetz, life member of the board of directors.
