Annett​e Pockriss, 79, Accounting Executive

Annette M. Pockriss, 79, an executive in an accounting firm, died Jan. 16, in Manalapan Township, N.J. She had lived in Covered Bridge, an adult community, for almost 30 years.

Pockriss started Galaxy Business Systems in the early 1960s, a statistical-typing service targeted at accountants for the preparation of detailed financial statements and notes that operated with the selling line "The Brightest in Business Services."

She later married her first client, Stanley Pockriss, and became his partner in his accounting firm.

After she retired, she became a volunteer at the Learning Center School in Freehold, N.J., where she taught speaking, reading and math to learning-disabled students in the elementary grades.

Born in Baltimore, Pockriss lived for many years in Sheepshead Bay, in Brooklyn, N.Y. In the late 1970s, she and her husband moved to Covered Bridge in New Jersey.

She was known for her ability to whip up multi-course meals from very plain ingredients and serve as a stellar hostess.

Pockriss is survived by daughters Laura Wienick and Betty Castro; sisters Brenda Lichtenstein and Diane Spitz; brother Alvin Kerschman; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
