Sure, “The Phantom of the Opera” holds the record as the longest-running show in Broadway history at 25 years, but it’s still got a long way to go to catch Philly’s title holder: “Karabell!” Of course, Karabell’s not a phantom but a living, breathing reality at the Walnut Street Theatre, where Len Karabell was just feted for 40 years of service as controller by Bernard Havard, WST’s president and producing artistic director, and staff. The “Playbill” Karabell’s holding here helps commemorate those four decades of dramas, comedies and musicals.
