A showing of the film "Empty Boxcars"

March 9, 2014 10:00 AM-12:00 PM

“Empty Boxcars” tells the amazing story of the survival of over 50,000 Jews who were Bulgarian citizens, during World War II, and the mass murder of 11,393 Jews from territories under Bulgarian control in Thrace and Macedonia. The plot to murder all European Jews was carried out with great secrecy. When Bulgaria, an ally of Hitler, was ordered to put its Jews into boxcars for transport to Treblinka, the plot was exposed. Bulgarians from all walks of life, government officials, members of parliament, the king, church leaders and labor leaders, lawyers and doctors, rose up in protest, The boxcars were emptied and 50,000 Bulgarian Jews were saved.
